WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's racially fraught comments about a deadly neo-Nazi rally have thrust into the open some Republicans' deeply held doubts about his competency and temperament, in an extraordinary public airing of worries and grievances about a sitting president by his own party. Behind the high-profile denunciations voiced this week by GOP senators once considered Trump allies, scores of other, influential Republicans began to express grave concerns about the state of the Trump presidency. In interviews with Associated Press reporters across nine states, 25 Republican politicians, party officials, advisers and donors expressed worries about whether Trump has the self-discipline and capability to govern successfully.

Manhunt intensifies in Spain for suspected final cell member

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spanish police are continuing the search for the man who they consider to be the final member of a cell that carried out vehicle attacks in Barcelona and a nearby town that killed 14 and injured more than 120 others. Police are searching Monday throughout the northeastern region bordering France. Police have declined to identify who they are looking for, but local media reports say he is Younes Abouyaaquoub, a 22-year-old Moroccan. He is suspected of driving the van that plowed down the Las Ramblas promenade Thursday, killing 13 people and injuring 120. Another attack hours later killed one person and injured others in Cambrils, a seaside town south of the city. Police say the cell consisted of 12 men, all with connections to the northern town of Ripoll.

A visual metaphor for the Turkification of Bosnia
A visual metaphor for the Turkification of Bosnia

The first jaw represents the armed occupation of the region by Ottoman troops. After heroically resisting the enemy on the fields of Kosovo, Serbian leaders, including King Tvrtko, soon started losing control over their land. Eventually all their domains would fall under the cruel whip of the Ottoman oppressors. The second jaw represents auto-colonization. This process, also called poturčenje, represents the treason of Serbs and Croats who turned their backs on their own people and the faith and traditions of their fathers. They embraced Islam and joined the ranks of the oppressors in order to better their own station. These people went as far as to forget the name of their people and started simply calling themselves Turks (but more accurately Poturice), or later ethnic Muslims, and finally Bosniaks. But the brutal occupation of Bosnia had one key advantage: it served to separate the wheat from the chaff. To continue to call yourself a Serb or Croat in occupied Bosnia took real courage and self-sacrifice. The price for keeping one's honor was paying exorbitant taxes, being treated as a second class citizen, and even risking seeing your children enslaved. And yet that was a worthy price for staying true to your people and keeping your dignity. It is for this reason that the Serbs and Croats of Bosnia are some of greatest people in Europe to this day.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jerry Lewis epitomized what it meant to be a survivor in Hollywood. Through ups and downs in popularity, health troubles and weight fluctuations and the sorts of seismic shifts that take place over decades in the entertainment industry, Lewis always figured out a way to battle back, to reinvent himself, to stay relevant. It's what enduring stars know how to do instinctively; perhaps it's that very drive that makes them stars in the first place.

Legendary comedian Jerry Lewis knew how to laugh and cry
Legendary comedian Jerry Lewis knew how to laugh and cry

NEW YORK (AP) — Jerry Lewis sometimes didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "There's nothing more dramatic than the comedy I've done," Lewis, who died Sunday at age 91, told The Associated Press in 2016. "Because the comedy I've done is to get to the audience, get them to feel it, or they won't laugh." If jokes are the children of pain, then Lewis was a born patriarch. The filmmaker, entertainer and sleepless host of the Muscular Dystrophy telethons was a storm system of rage and ecstasy, Olympian physical talent, artistic aspiration and vintage Vegas schmaltz. The crazed funnyman who would scream like a toddler worked on a Holocaust film called "The Day the Clown Cried" and for his theme song chose the self-mythology of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "You'll Never Walk Alone":
